Boise ISSA is participating again this year in the Boise INTERFACE Conference.

As an affiliated organization we have the opportunity to receive a donation for each person that references Boise ISSA as the referring organization during registration and then attends the conference. This donation is not limited to just ISSA members, but anyone who references Boise ISSA and attends, so please share this invitation with co-workers.

ISSA Offensive Security Training

You are invited to a penetration testing training event that Brady Bloxham, from Silent Break Security, will be providing on December 8th. His November ISSA presentation was well received and many were looking to obtain additional offensive security training based on their interest in his presentation. Brady has vast experience in DoD and private sector offensive security techniques, and will be providing quality training at a fraction of the cost of security conferences (BlackHat, DEFCON, etc.).

Brady Bloxham is president and owner of Silent Break Security, providing advanced penetration testing and information security consulting services. In his spare time, Brady is also an adjunct professor teaching Telecommunications and Computer Security at the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business (DESB). He received a BS in Information Systems from the Marriott School of Business at Brigham Young University. He also received a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Information Assurance from Idaho State University. Brady has worked for KPMG LLP, in the banking industry, and most recently for the Department of Defense. Brady stays current in the information security field by presenting at various conferences, building custom offensive security tools, and maintaining the pwnOS project.

October 4, 2012: Classification and Mitigation of Modern Web Application Attacks

Overview Hacktivism has increased dramatically in the past year and has become a priority for security organizations worldwide. Understanding hackers attack methods will help prepare your organization for an attack, should it ever be a target.

Speaker:Patti Sauder, Sr. Sales Engineering, will discuss options for better understanding how  current attacks are assembled. Specifically, Patti will present:

  • How social networks can be used to recruit members and promote hack campaigns.
  • Specific cyber reconnaissance and attack methods used by today’s hackers.
  • Key mitigation steps that organizations need to help protect against attacks.
  • A live demonstration of attack tools and mitigation using Imperva’s Web Application Firewall

Overview

In the past 18 months, a series of highly sophisticated and targeted cyber-attacks across the globe have revealed a seismic shift in the threat landscape. With both private and public-sector organizations, targeted attacks are becoming increasingly advanced and audacious. In March of last year RSA suffered a significant and highly publicized cyber-attack. This presentation will detail the elements of the attack, the lessons learned by RSA, and suggested best practices for continuing to combat Advanced Persistent Threats.

Speaker: Percy Tucker
Percy Tucker, Senior Technology Consultant for RSA Security, will be presenting “Anatomy of an Attack.”  Percy has worked for RSA Security for over ten years with 15 years experience in the security field.  Percy has been delivering this presentation around the country and is well versed in detailed elements of the attack. Due to his support immediately following the attack, he was deeply involved in the remediation efforts and can provide a firsthand perspective of the impact on RSA and practical steps any organization can take to help prepare for the dynamic threat landscape we are faced with today.
